Starting to bake for sale is exciting, and it is easy to overspend on machines you do not need yet, or to under-buy and outgrow them in six months. This checklist sorts bakery equipment by stage, with realistic budgets based on prices at SHOPYTHON, so you can buy the right things in the right order.
Stage 1: Serious home baker
You bake for family, friends and the occasional order, a few batches a week.
- Stand mixer for cakes, cookies, cream and light bread: from RM480 (Orimas EM1208, 8 L) to RM2,499 (Kitmens KM-B7, 7 L).
- Countertop convection oven, bigger and more even than a household oven: Kitmens KM-CO50 (50 L) at RM1,050 or Kitmens KM-KO65 (65 L) at RM720.
- Trays, racks and bakeware that fit your oven: see bakeware.
- Optional: a Mockmill stone grain mill (from RM1,199) if you want to bake with freshly milled flour.
Typical budget: RM1,500 to RM4,000.
Stage 2: Home bakery business
You take regular orders, sell at markets or through social media, and bake several batches a day.
- Spiral mixer for bread and buns, so your stand mixer is free for cakes and creams: The Baker SMES-10 (10 L, 5 kg dough) at RM2,190 or MyBaker MY-10HSD (10 L, removable bowl) at RM3,799. See stand mixer vs spiral mixer.
- Multi-tray convection oven: Innofood KT-BF1A (8 trays) at RM1,599, or Soner SCO-4MF with steam injection at RM3,800 if you bake bread and croissants.
- Proofer for consistent rising in our hot, humid climate: The Baker FX-13M2 fermenting box (13 trays), RM1,699.
- Dough sheeter if you make puff pastry, croissants or pizza bases: Kneader RS101 tabletop sheeter, RM2,499.
Typical budget: RM6,000 to RM14,000.
Stage 3: Café or small bakery
You bake every day for walk-in customers or wholesale, and consistency and speed matter as much as quality.
- Larger spiral mixer: The Baker SMES-20 (20 L, 8 kg dough) at RM2,690, or Italian Sunmix and Famag mixers for artisan and high-hydration doughs.
- Commercial planetary mixer for creams and batters: SPAR SP-800 (7.6 L) at RM3,200, with larger SPAR models up to 60 L.
- Commercial oven: a deck oven for bread (from RM1,340), a convection oven with humidity for pastry such as the UNOX LINEMISS XFT133 (RM5,150), or a combi oven if you also cook. See deck vs convection vs combi.
- Proofer or retarder-proofer, ideally matched to your oven: proofers from RM1,699.
- Floor dough sheeter for laminated pastry in volume: CCFM and Kneader sheeters.
- When volume grows: a dough divider and rounder (Sunmix, from RM16,388) to portion buns and rolls quickly and evenly.
Typical budget: RM15,000 to RM60,000 and up, depending mostly on the oven.
What to buy first
- The oven. It limits your output more than anything else, and its size and power needs decide your layout.
- The mixer that matches your main product: spiral for bread, planetary for cakes.
- The proofer, if you sell bread. Proofing at room temperature in Malaysia is fast but unpredictable.
- Labour-saving machines (sheeter, divider, rounder) once you know which job takes the most time.
Before you order, check
- Power: add up the rated power of everything that runs at the same time. Larger machines may need three-phase power or dedicated circuits.
- Space and access: measure doorways, lift sizes and staircases, not just the floor space.
- Tray standard: pick one tray size (600×400 mm is the bakery standard) and buy ovens, proofers and racks that share it.
- Delivery and warranty: SHOPYTHON delivers free in West Malaysia on orders of RM1,000 and above, and all machines come with warranty handled in Malaysia.
